1L2.5 Recognise coins and notes and write them in numbers with the correct symbols (£ & p), where these involve numbers up to 20

VIDEO - Money Flashcards - understanding the value of money - Lance is introduced to money flashcards, showing the coin or note, value in £ or p and a product (which he loves and can associate with).

VIDEO - Identifying coins and introducing notes and their value - Matching the value in pence or pounds to the note or coin in value order.

VIDEO - Identifying the value of coins and notes - Using real money to identify coins and notes and matching with money flashcards. Thinking about the language cheap / expensive.

VIDEO - What do we use money for? Identifying coins in value order - Identifying real coins and matching them to the coins on the worksheet in value order.

VIDEO - Identifying coins and writing the amount in £ or p - Lance looks at a real coin, finds the matching coin on the worksheet and write the value e.g. 1p next to it. Practising number formation and building an understanding of £ or p. Alternatively, students could also mark or place the coin on the corresponding image.

VIDEO - Identifying coins - 'Find all the...' game - Lance picks a coin and finds all the matching coins on the worksheet, counting how many he found in total.


1L2.6 Read 12 hour digital and analogue clocks in hours

INTERACTIVE VIDEO - Telling the Time - This short video cycles through the o’clock times showing both the analogue and digital representation. It is an MP4 format and takes a moment to download.

Telling the Time O’Clock TEMPLATE - This 12 page template shows the o’clock times in analogue and digital side by side. You can print and use the dashed line to fold or cut for telling and matching times.

Analogue 12 hour Clock WORKBOOK - This 25 page workbook looks at reading an analogue 12-hour clock. The first 12 pages are about reading the clock at o’clock time and the second 13 pages are about deciding whether it is AM or PM time. [Eco Ink Version]

Digital 12 hour Clock WORKBOOK - This 20 page workbook focuses on reading the digital form of the o’clock time. It also covers interpretation of AM and PM in relation to the digital time. [Eco Ink Version]

VIDEO - Read and write the time - O’clock - Lance reads the time on the worksheet and records his answer as a number.

VIDEO - What time is it? O’clock - Ella and Lance read and say the time on the flashcards which include both analogue and digital representations.


1L2.7 Know the number of days in a week, months, and seasons in a year;  Be able to name and sequence

Days of the Week TEMPLATE - This 14 page template contains activities around the days of the week - looking at the names; the sequence; today, yesterday and tomorrow; and the concept of weekdays and weekends. They are designed to be printed, laminated and reused daily. [Eco Ink Version]

1L2.8 Describe and make comparisons in words between measures of items including size, length, width, height, weight and capacity

Describe and Compare WORKBOOK - This 28-page workbooks uses images to help understand the comparison language and select the correct answer. [Eco Ink Version]

VIDEO - Describing and comparing items relating to measure - Describing household items using knowledge of 2D and 3D shapes, colour and measure. Using mathematical vocabulary e.g. full/empty, big/small, taller/shorter, curved/straight, heavy/light and making comparison same/different.

1L2.9 Identify and recognise common 2-D and 3-D shapes including circle, cube, rectangle (incl. square) and triangle

Basic 2D Shapes TEMPLATE - This is a 14-page template looking at 2D Shapes - circle, square, rectangle and triangle - and their properties - sides, corners, straight, curved, long, short, equal.

Basic 2D Shapes WORKBOOK ‘Select Shape’ - This is a 44-page workbook asking the question ‘Which is a…’ and selecting from a choice of two, three and four 2D shapes - circle, square, triangle, rectangle. [Eco Ink Version]

Basic 2D Shapes WORKBOOK ‘Identify Shape’ - This is a 68-page workbook asking the question ‘What shape do you see?’ and selecting from a choice of four 2D shapes - circle, square, triangle or rectangle. All shapes are taken from real life examples; some of the later examples have multiple shapes found within them. [Eco Ink Version]

Pictures of 2D Shapes WORKBOOK - This 36 page workbook contains 12 different pictures using 2D shapes. Each picture is made up of a combination of squares, rectangles, triangles and circle. Each picture has three different pages - ‘What can you see?’ - an object made out of 2D shapes, ‘Can you make it?’ - the outline of the shapes as a template, and ‘Use these shapes’ - to be cut out and used to fill the template. For children with more advanced fine motor skills this can also be used as an OT / cutting and sticking activity. [Eco Ink Version]

Sort & Count 2D Shapes WORKBOOK - This 28-page workbook contains circles, squares, triangles and rectangles. It is about categorising the four 2D shapes, sorting, counting and recording the results on a table. 1L2.10 Use everyday positional vocabulary to describe position and direction including left, right, in front, behind, under and above

VIDEO - Describing position in a scene - Looking at a scene and correctly selecting the correct positional language to complete the sentence. Left/right, in front/behind, inside/outside.

VIDEO - Describing position of people - Karen asks Lance and Ella questions relating to their position at the table thinking about beside, next to and in between. Beginning to think about left and right.

VIDEO - Following instructions - Beside, left and right - Lance and Ella place their figures based on Karen’s instruction. Left and right is a tricky concept and needs repeating.

Note: In first edition of Book 1 the nomenclature for Level 1 topics is slightly different and represented as ‘1E’ instead of ‘1L’ .
